Wake County Democrat tweet includes image disparaging parents

apdillon.substack.com

On Jan. 15, the Wake County Democrats issued a Tweet in support of certain Wake County School board members, notably leaving out member Karen Carter.

The tweet, which was later deleted, includes an image apparently depicting school board attendees (parents) as conspiracy theorists, white supremacists, anti-vax, and Jan. 6 protesters.

Board members Heather Scott and Jim Martin “liked” the tweet.

I've reached out to Wake Democrats Chair Kevyn Creech to see if they will tell me who on their staff tweeted that and why they felt the need to include that image. This article will be updated with any response that is received.

Update: The Wake County Democrat party doubled down on the tweet on Jan. 16.

Our fight in NC. A political party damning one county's parents for wanting better education. Yet praising an embattled sch sys who national MSM points out is failing kids on all fronts. Threatened by unmask signs in the boardroom & ppl who voted for them. 2 bd mems liked it.

North Carolina legislator Rep. Erin Paré (R-Wake) has called for the Wake County School Board members to denounce the “bad faith, inappropriate, and insensitive cartoon” they tweeted out:

The only correct thing to do here, WCPSS BOE is to denounce this bad faith, inappropriate, and insensitive cartoon. It’s time we work together and get back to the business of making sure our children have the best education possible in Wake County.

School board members need to be willing partners with parents, not standby in agreement as political parties ridicule parents in cartoons. Parents are involved, they care about their kid’s education, they work hard to support our schools, & they want best possible for the kids.

At some point, we as adults need to come together, put party affiliation aside, be respectful of the opinions of others, and focus on solving problems, for the sake of doing the best for our children’s education in WCPSS.

As of Jan. 18, no Wake County Board members have publicly responded, however, the chair of the Wake County Democrats has backpedaled on the previously posted tweets, which have apparently been deleted.

The intent of last weekend’s posts (now removed) was to show our School Board’s exemplary leadership during this pandemic and the pressures they face. WCPSS members weren’t consulted; the impact had the opposite effect. We stand by their fact-based leadership. -WCDP Chair Creech

It appears the Wake County Democrats have turned off the ability to reply to their tweet, per Corey DeAngelis:
