Slow-motion invasion update: Training off Alaskan Coast & a border surge
China & Russia held naval training off U.S. Coast; Chinese migrant border surge
A few months back, I wrote about how the Chinese government seems to “be everywhere and anywhere,” including parking a military installation in Cuba, spy balloons, the number of Chinese fighting-age males coming over our southern border, and the Hanban’s influence in our K-12 schools and universities.
Check out my June article, “The slow-motion invasion” below.
The slow-motion invasion has a few updates.
At the onset of August, it was reported that China and Russia were holding joint training off the coast of Alaska.
Per USA Today, this is the third year in a row of Biden's presidency such a joint training exercise by China and Russia has taken place near Alaska.
At least 11 Chinese and Russian warships were involved in the training exercises taking place in the Aleutian Islands region off the coast of Alaska.
The U.S. response was rather underwhelming. The Biden administration ordered just four Navy Destroyers to the area. Four versus 11; not great odds.
As noted by former Royal Navy officer Tom Sharpe in a column for the Telegraph UK, the U.S. doesn’t have any naval bases in that area, so the destroyers had to be re-routed from other areas in the Pacific.
Sharpe’s full article is an interesting read about the political influence balancing act going on at sea off our coast.
He’s spot on in the overall message the two countries are sending, writing that, “In this recent instance, the Chinese and Russian message to friend and foe alike was, ‘we can operate together, far from home and with impunity’.”
Yes. They can. And they are.
What are we doing about it? Holding casualty evacuation drills in the Pacific.
More To The Story
In June, I noted the increased incidence of military-aged Chinese males being encountered attempting to cross the U.S. southern border. Here’s a quick recap:
Between October 2022 and April of this year, Border Patrol data shows 9,854 Chinese migrants encountered at the southern border; a roughly 393% spike when compared to all of fiscal year 2022. But that’s not all. The vast majority of those migrants, a total of 8,304, were single adults and mostly male.
Just a couple of months later, staggering new numbers are being reported.
Via the Daily Caller:
Border Patrol agents recorded a roughly 800% increase in Chinese migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, according to federal data updated Friday. There were roughly 17,678 illegal migrant encounters of Chinese nationals between October 2022 and July, compared to 1,970 in all of fiscal year 2022, according to the data. In March, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sent a memo exclusively obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation to agency officials warning of a surge in Chinese migrants.
CPB says the surge is China’s fault. China has “allowed” its citizens to flee, according to the Daily Caller’s report:
“The loosened COVID protocols in China have allowed Chinese nationals to flee repressive rule in China and begin their journey to the United States seeking better living conditions,” CBP’s earlier memo stated of the reasons for the looming surge.
“According to CBP, custodial interviews indicate that Chinese citizens are requesting asylum claiming religious persecution by the Chinese Government due to their Christian faith. Additionally, Chinese nationals reportedly make their own smuggling arrangements for most of their journey, only utilizing elements of smuggling networks to cross the border,” the memo stated.
Anyone who believes that China is allowing citizens to openly flee without being tracked can see me about buying some oceanfront property in Kansas.
It is far more likely China is allowing citizens to flee on purpose and just as likely some of these individuals are not just ordinary citizens but instead have a strategic or military purpose.
According to the Daily Caller, those scenarios are on the mind of at least one person - Gordon Chang, a Gatestone Institute distinguished senior fellow and advisory board member.
“When I first saw that surge in Chinese migrants, that’s the thought that came to my mind that these are either Ministry of State Security agents or Chinese military, who are coming to this country to commit acts of sabotage against the US,” Chang told the DCNF.
Chang’s ringing the national security bell. Is anyone else hearing it?
