Quick Hit: Violent threats made to NC Republicans
Threats made to Sen. Thom Tillis, Congressman Chuck Edwards, and Supreme Court race candidate Jefferson Griffin
Late last week, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said he's been the subject of violent death threats and gave audio to reporters of violent voicemails and death threats left with this office staff.
Uncensored version- heavy profanity warning:
“Senator Tillis, his staff, and even his family have long been subject to threats, harassment, attempted intimidation, and verbal abuse from unstable individuals who don’t agree with his political views,” Tillis’ staff said to the Charlotte Observer in a written statement.
“This is my promise,” Tillis told reporters, “Anybody that communicates a death threat to me, if we catch you, I’m pressing charges. There’s no place for that and I would encourage any other members to do the same thing.”
The Charlotte Observer report early on tries to cast these threats as Republican-linked, citing a past censure by NC Republicans and the Hegseth nomination. In the latter half of the article, the anti-Trump group "Indivisible" is brought up in relation to protests against Republicans in event settings, namely the recent town hall held by Congressman Chuck Edwards (R- NC-11).
This NY Post clip (below) is of a man identifying himself as a "veteran" being led out by police from Edwards' event.
"You're lying. I'm a veteran. You don't give a *uck about me," the man yelled.
To his credit, Edwards kept his cool during the entire town hall, which lasted around an hour and a half.
Meanwhile, NC Supreme Court race candidate Judge Jefferson Griffin, along with his family, have been getting violent threats at their home.
North Carolina Judicial Branch Communications Director Graham Wilson has confirmed to multiple outlets that an investigation into the threats is underway. He did not issue details other than to say threats against both Griffin and his opponent Allison Riggs are being looked into.
Through a spokesperson, the Griffins said the threats have continued despite the announcement of the loss of their infant daughter who was born 23 weeks prematurely.
