Quick Hit: Sex abuse in K-12 schools
Popular social media account highlights this disturbing issue
Since 2016, I've tracked K-12 teacher arrests in North Carolina.
I've dubbed that work the "Quiet Epidemic," and have ended that reporting as of Dec. 31, 2024. I'll be analyzing the eight years worth of data I've collected and will be sharing my findings over the coming year.
Over the eight years I've reported on the subject, my preliminary data shows 456 arrests with 197 convictions, 75 of which required the individual to register as a sex offender.
For the calendar year of 2024, I logged 74 arrests. That's the highest annual number since I started this project in 2016.
Interest in this subject has picked up, especially on social media by education activist Christoper Rufo, but this kind of crime has also been recently highlighted by the popular account "Libs of TikTok" on their official Substack site.
