Quick Hit: New Mexico GOP firebombed
Still no resolution in NC GOP firebombing... 8 years later.
In case you missed it, in the final days of March the GOP headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico was firebombed.
Graffiti in red spray paint of “ICE = KKK” was also found on the building.
The FBI and the ATF are both investigating the incident. A spokesperson for the ATF said “incendiary materials” were recovered at the scene and the local fire department, which in a Facebook post called it a “structural commercial fire” and did not identify the building as the GOP HQ in writing but instead included this photo:
The fire department during a press conference later said it was arson. (Thank you, captain obvious.)
“This horrific attack, fueled by hatred and intolerance, is a direct assault on our values, freedoms, and our right to political expression,” the New Mexico GOP said in a statement. “This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a disturbing pattern of politically motivated violence that has plagued our country — fueled in part by the silence and implicit encouragement from progressive leaders who refuse to condemn these acts.”
Yes, it is a pattern, and it includes North Carolina.
The NC Orange County GOP office was firebombed in 2016.
The damage in the attack was extensive and graffiti on the side of the building read, “Nazi republicans leave town or else.”
The Orange County case saw no movement four years after firebombing took place and is still unsolved eight years later despite FBI involvement.
