Quick Hit: Lara Trump withdraws name from FL Senate seat contention
Speculation she may run for NC's Senate seat in 2026
Lara Trump has withdrawn her name from consideration for Florida's Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio, who is joining the Trump administration's transition as Secretary of State.
"After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate," Lara Trump wrote in a Dec. 21 X post.
"I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida," she wrote. "I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough."
She went on to say she does have a "big announcement" she will share in January.
"I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future," she wrote in conclusion. "In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment."
President-elect Donald Trump and his son had both floated her name as a possible replacement.
There has been speculation Lara Trump will throw her hat in the ring in North Carolina's 2026 Senate race, challenging current Republican incumbent Thom Tillis.
Outgoing Governor Roy Cooper added fuel to the fire that he may challenge Tillis in 2026, including comments made during his "farewell" speech last week in which he said he was "not done yet."
