Quick Hit: Kash Patel confirmed as FBI Director
NC's Tillis among the first to shake Patel's hand
On Feb. 20, Kashyap 'Kash' Patel was finally confirmed as the ninth director of the FBI.
Patel is a first generation American, born in New York after his parents legally immigrated to the United States. He is a lawyer and former prosecutor and is the first Indian-American to hold the post.
The vote was 51 to 49 mainly down party lines, with one exception; Maine's Sen. Susan Collins was the only Republican to vote against Patel.
Among some of the first Senators to congratulate Patel was North Carolina’s Thom Tillis.
Patel was sworn in on Feb. 21. at the White House by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“I am living the American dream,” Patel said after taking oath. “Anyone that thinks the American Dream is dead, just look right here. You’re talking to a first-generation Indian kid who’s about to lead the law enforcement community, the greatest nation on God’s green earth.”
