Quick Hit: Ironic riots in Mexico City
Anti-tourism, anti-gentrification protests turned violent
"Mexico City devolves into chaos as citizens protest influx of migrants.”
Oh, the irony.
The initial protest of wanting "gringo tourists" out of their country and an end to "gentrification" of certain areas of the city turned into what looked just like the anti-ICE antifa riot complete with looting, fires, and property destruction that was seen in Los Angeles in recent weeks.
One individual was filmed writing "kill all gringo" on the side of a building.
Data from 2022 shows the tourism industry in Mexico City was worth over $10 billion for the city's economy, or roughly just under 11% of the city’s GDP.
