Quick Hit: Illegal who murdered Wake Deputy one of many extradited to U.S.
Alder Marin Sotelo faces a first degree murder charge in death of Wake Deputy Ned Byrd
The illegal alien responsible for the murder of a Wake County deputy is one of many recently extradited to the U.S.
Per the FBI’s press release:
"Alder Marin Sotelo faces homicide charges related to the killing of law enforcement officer. On August 23, 2022, Marin-Sotelo was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder following the August 11, 2022, death of Deputy Ned Byrd of the Wake County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office. Sotelo will face federal weapons charges in the Middle District of North Carolina and state murder charges in the North Carolina State Court. This case was investigated by the FBI Charlotte Field Office."
According to the USDOJ, Sotelo may face a Federal maximum of 10 years imprisonment or a state maximum of life in prison or death.
Sotelo was one of 29 criminals extradited from Mexico and per the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ), the individuals include “leaders and managers of drug cartels recently designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists, such as the Sinaloa Cartel, Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), Cártel del Noreste (formerly Los Zetas), La Nueva Familia Michoacana, and Cártel de Golfo (Gulf Cartel).”
Notably missing from the list: Tren de Aragua.
“As President Trump has made clear, cartels are terrorist groups, and this Department of Justice is devoted to destroying cartels and transnational gangs,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “We will prosecute these criminals to the fullest extent of the law in honor of the brave law enforcement agents who have dedicated their careers — and in some cases, given their lives — to protect innocent people from the scourge of violent cartels. We will not rest until we secure justice for the American people.”
Congressman Brad Knott (NC-13) released a statement regarding the extradition of Sotelo to the United States from Mexico.
“Many North Carolinians, especially in the law enforcement community, dealt with the grief of losing Wake County Sheriff’s Deputy Ned Byrd before being robbed of justice as one of the primary suspects escaped to Mexico. This same fact pattern happens far too often,” Knott said. “I thank and applaud President Trump, Attorney General Bondi and Secretary of State Rubio for securing the extradition of Deputy Byrd’s suspected murderer and 28 other vicious criminals to the United States to face prosecution.”
The White House Press Secretary also issued a statement.
"Last night, 29 Mexican Cartel Members were extradited to the United States. President Trump directed the Department of Justice and the Department of State to make this happen, and Attorney General Bondi and Secretary of State Rubio did a tremendous job in getting this done,” said Karolina Leavitt.
“The group of cartel members, who will soon arrive on American soil, includes one of the most evil cartel bosses in the world, Rafael Caro Quintero, who tortured and murdered DEA Agent Kiki Camerena in 1985. The previous Administration allowed these criminals to run free and commit crimes all over the world,” Leavitt said. “The Trump Administration is declaring these thugs as terrorists, because that is what they are, and demanding justice for the American people."
