Quick Hit: CNN report on Lt. Gov. Robinson
Robinson won't be dropping out of the governor's race
Yesterday afternoon, rumors began churning about an upcoming CNN article making various accusations against Lt. Governor Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for North Carolina governor.
The rumors of a CNN article turned out to be true.
The report talks about an online handle “minisoldr” allegedly used by Robinson on an adult forum website where he allegedly made remarks as seen in the CNN headline below. CNN’s report says they won’t post screenshots as proof of these remarks, however.
One thing feels a bit off with this story; the “minisoldr” X account CNN says it linked to Robinson appears to be a troll account, with a September 2018 creation date.
But the post below made by that account shows a response to a February 2018 Washington Post article with “5s,” meaning 5 seconds ago. There is no additional screenshot provided by CNN of that reply to see exactly when it was made.
Robinson came out with a video statement right before the CNN piece came out. He denied the claims and said he was not dropping out of the race.
Just days earlier, his opponent NC Attorney General Josh Stein dropped out of a Spectrum debate against Robinson. Stein is the second Democrat Council of State candidate to dump a debate in the past few weeks, following statehouse Sen. Rachel Hunt (running for Lt. Gov.) canceling a different Spectrum News debate with Republican candidate Hal Weatherman.
