Gallup: U.S. Morality in decline
A second poll by Gallup shows an increase in socially conservative views
A poll released by Gallup shows Americans believe there is a decline in morality.
Topline findings include 54% who say the state of moral values in the U.S. is poor and another 83% think it's getting worse.
Looking at political parties, some 74% of Republicans and 38% of Democrats regard U.S. morals as poor while 51% of independents who rate values poorly is up 7 pts from last year; the highest recorded for that group.
A second poll by Gallup shows an increase in socially conservative views not seen since 2012.
According to Gallup “Social Conservatism in the U.S. is at its highest in about a decade.”
38% say they are conservative on social issues and 44% say they are economically conservative. Both of these results are at their highest point since 2012 and this increase is across all age ranges.
More To The Story
The first poll mentioned above dropped on June 9. The second poll dropped on June 8 - the same day Tucker Carlson published his second show on Twitter, titled “Cling to your taboos.”
Substack is still blocking tweets from being embedded in articles on the platform, but Carlson’s show can be viewed on Twitter regardless of whether or not one has an account. As of Friday morning, the video had over 34 million views.
During his show, Carlson references the Satanic merchandise at Target while Pres. Biden claims the biggest threat to the country is "white supremacy." His monologue's themes overall align with what Gallup found in its poll - the declining morals in the United States.
Here’s the transcript from the last few minutes of Carlson’s show, where he ties it all together.
The old system was better. The government operated on a system of laws, not amorphous moral terror. Politicians couldn't accuse you of something they couldn't find.
The legal code was straightforward - child molestation was a crime, having unfashionable opinions was not.
Outside of the government sphere, the population mostly governed itself as it does in every free society.
You knew what was allowed and what wasn't because the rules didn't change very often. The taboos were organic. They derived from collective experience and instinct; the two most reliable guides to life. They evolved for a reason. They still do.
Our job is to protect them despite the hectoring... the non-stop hectoring from the people in charge.
You know the outlines of right and wrong. You're born knowing them.
So don't let them talk you out of what you can smell. Don't let them rationalize away your intuitive moral sense.
Cling to your taboos like your life depends on them. Because it does.
Cherish and protect them like family heirlooms. That's exactly what they are.
