FBI is cracking down on S. American theft gangs
Don't get excited, there's a specific victim type involved
According to an FBI press release, the agency is conducting a major crackdown on South American Theft Groups (SATGs).
The release highlights related arrests including two individuals in Manhattan's Diamond District accused of running a major "fence" operation for stolen goods, and three others indicted in Cincinnati for burglarizing an NFL player's home.
Here’s a video/podcast the FBI put out about these crimes featuring Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll. The transcript can be found here.
Don't get excited that the homes targeted by these South American gangs in North Carolina and other states are going to see resolution, the focus of this new crackdown is only athlete homes.
Per the press statement, the operation specifically targeted criminals who monitored professional athletes' travel schedules to rob their homes when unoccupied, though the FBI does mention these groups victimize many types of targets, including traveling jewelry salesmen.

More To The Story
While the FBI is looking into these gangs and theft rings and ICE is conducting raids in cities like Raleigh, Mecklenburg Sheriff Gary McFadden has come under fire for not contacting ICE before releasing a violent illegal alien.
McFadden says he's just following the "letter of the law" in House Bill 10, which requires sheriff's to cooperate with ICE. Sources in the House tell me this incident is on their radar and will be addressed this session.
