A Democrat-tied group called Democracy Defense Action (previously named MeidasTouch) keeps churning out old videos of Lt. Governor Mark Robinson. The videos are, of course, cut down to make the biggest negative impact possible.
More To The Story has already highlighted two such instances of video clips being recycled; one of which was the “cat lady” remarks by JD Vance and which had direct involvement by Democracy Defense Action (DDA) a.k.a. MeidasTouch.
The point of MeidasTouch (now DDA) was to create a super PAC for Democrats that cranked out anti-Trump and anti-Republican videos, many of which were sent viral by Hollywood celebrities.
In the 2020 election cycle, MeidasTouch (MT) spent $1,839,651 opposing Republican candidates and $681,916 supporting Democrats. In 2023, the PAC changed names to "Democracy Defense Action," but MT maintained its hyperpartisan "news" platform. The website Media Bias Fact Check rates MT as "extreme far left."
MT was founded during the COVID lockdowns in 2020 by three brothers from Long Island that, in 2021, Rolling Stone dubbed the "golden boys of the #resistance." Rolling Stone's article also called MT's fundraising efforts "nonsensical" and focused on money instead of helping Democrats win elections."
So, in a nutshell, DDA is a Democrat Super PAC masquerading as news. Its Editor-in-Chief is Ron Filipkowski. He is the individual posting these chop & cut videos on X, the latest of which was on Robinson’s past remarks. Filipkowski’s post was retweeted by NC Attorney General Josh Stein, who is running for governor against NC Lt. Governor Mark Robinson.
The clip is obviously several years old as Robinson is referring to the controversy of Biles withdrawing from the Tokyo Olympics in July 2021. She withdrew from five of her six finals to focus on her "mental health." Later she said she had been experiencing a condition known as the "twisties," which Biles described as a "mental block" that causes a gymnast to lose their spatial awareness.
Biles’ withdrawal was a national topic of discussion at the time Robinson made his comment, with opinions ranging from her wasting a spot another gymnast could have taken, to those with sympathy for her situation.
In the current Paris Olympics, Biles has performed extremely well and has medaled multiple times, making her the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history.
Stein’s post was responded to by NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer.
It’s worth noting that the Biden Administration’s Title IX changes that redefine sex to include gender identity took effect on Aug. 1.
North Carolina is not among the states who have sued and successfully blocked the implementation of these changes. Why? Stein, as NC attorney general, has not taken any action to join them. Also, his office is not responding to questions about the changes to the law or the lawsuits.
More To The Story
Robinson has been taking a different tack, highlighting the Olympic boxing fight where a female Italian boxer was forced to quit after being pummeled by an Algerian male fighter, Imane Khelif, who was allowed to compete in the female brackets.
Robinson’s X post builds on a post issued by Riley Gaines, the All-American swimmer who has become a major figure in pushing back on men being allowed to complete in women’s sports by identifying as “transgender.”
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s X post on that match has gone viral, garnering over 100 million views as of Aug. 2, 2024.
In a separate post, Gaines included video of Khelif beating on a female Mexican boxer.
